OpenBuildings™ Station Designer Help

Establish Catalog Types

This part of the process associates catalog types, user created parametric items and cell libraries with DataGroup System catalogs (XML files), and with the user defined catalog type placement tools. This is accomplished using the Catalog Editor which, like the DataGroup Definition Editor, runs independently of OpenBuildings Station Designer.
  1. Select ( Catalog Editor). Opens the Catalog Editor dialog.
  2. (Optional) In the Catalog Editor, clicking on the icon next to > Filter opens the Available Catalog Filters list attached to the toolbar.

Turn off all catalogs except Architectural.

Note: This is on pretext of adding the new catalog type in Architectural discipline.

This makes the Catalog Editor directory less cluttered with catalogs of other products, and you can readily see the results of your work in this exercise.

  3. In the Catalog Editor, select the > Show Catalog Type. The catalog tree displays the catalog types and activate the New Catalog Type menu.
  4. Select the New > New Catalog Type. Opens the Catalog Type Definition dialog.

In the Settings, the Type Name field displays the default NewCatalogType name string.
  5. Overwrite to edit the default type name with Refrigerators. Display Name follows the same; append it if required.
  6. Select the Destination folder (either to Workset or Organization) and to set the Destination file by clicking the Create a New DataGroup File () icon. The New DataGroup File dialog opens. Enter ApplianceTypeExts in the File name field and save. Catalog type destination file naming convention is <Catalog Type Name> TypeExts.xml.
  7. Complete the settings for a Discipline Group, and Sub-Group as well, as applicable. The selected discipline provide available grouping in it. The catalog group is the folder where the new catalog types are stored.
  8. In the Definition settings pick an applicable tool template from the pull down list and select required definitions from the available definitions list to associate with the catalog type. The Refrigerators catalog type will now have datagroup definitions established to use.
